REPORT: Freedom Convoy Organizer Tamara Lich Granted Bail, Court Attempts to Silence Her with Gag Order

Lich, who is a mother of Metis heritage with no past criminal record, argued that the judge's past as a Liberal may have affected her decision to not grant bail.

Freedom Convoy organizer Tamara Lich has been granted bail after having originally been declined so by an Ontario judge.

Lich, who was arrested in downtown Ottawa the day before convoy protests were broken up by force by police, was denied bail by a judge who had previously run as a Liberal candidate in the 2011 election.

Lich's bail conditions require that she leave Ottawa within 24 hours, she leave Ontario in 72 hours, that she report to police, not post on social media, not protest against Covid restrictions, and that she have no contact with the co-accused, among other conditions.

The first judge, Julie Bourgeois, believed that there was a risk that Lich would continue criminal actions of given bail.

"There is a substantial risk you will continue these actions and will not abide by an order," the judge told Lich. "Your recent history in our city … satisfies me that you're detention is necessary for the safety and protection of the public."
