REPORT: 'L.A. is Like The Purge;' Detective Warns Tourists to Stay Out of City

A police detective in Los Angeles has issued a dire warning to visitors urging them to stay away from the city amid a surge in crime.

Los Angeles Police Department detective Jamie McBride explained that he's telling people not to visit "because we don't think we can keep you safe."

"Los Angeles is like the movie Purge, but instead of 24 hours to commit your crime, they have 365 days," McBride said during an appearance on Fox News.

McBride said California's zero bail policy, which allows offenders of misdemeanors and low-level felonies to be quickly released from custody after being arrested and booked, is to blame for the rash of theft, robberies and other violent crime across the region.

"Right now you can literally go out, do whatever you want, commit crimes and you'll be out faster than the officers can finish the report," McBride said.

Organized retail theft is one of the fastest growing crimes right now, he added. Groups of criminals are mobbing high-end retailers and grabbing everything in sight.

"They're going and getting Rolex watches, they're smashing jewelry stores, they're going into Louis Vuitton stores," he said.

It's not only luxury stores being victimized, either. Stores like Best Buy and Walgreens have even reported "theft mobs" and a rise in larcenies.

McBride said it doesn't matter if you believe in Democratic or Republican views, everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes and that means cities need to be tough on crime.

"We need to work on changing these laws back to make it tougher on crime. We need to get rid of these so-called progressive district attorneys, they are advocating for the criminals. It's almost like it's shame on you if you're a victim. It's like it's your fault. That's the way they see it," he said. "There's a lot of cleaning up we need to do, but we need to take back the streets."
