Former Georgia state Representative Vernon Jones has finally left the Democratic Party months after he announced his endorsement of President Donald Trump.
Jones repeatedly said he had no plan to switch his party affiliation after coming under fire from Democrats for his decision. But he announced on Wednesday that he will officially be joining the Republican Party, noting in a tweet that he knows “how to fight.”
Jones planned to resign from his role in Georgia’s House of Representatives and campaign on behalf of the president, raising the ire of those within his party. Though he changed his mind about stepping down, Jones decided not to run for re-election this year and has been a vocal supporter of the president.

Now more than ever, the Republican Party is in desperate need of leaders that know how to fight.
I know how to fight.

Jones spoke to thousands of Trump supporters rallying in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday as Congress moves to certify Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 race.
“I am so fired up by what happened in Georgia and what happened across this country,” he told the crowd.

The former chief executive officer for DeKalb County had said back in April that Trump earned his respect and support because of his handling of the economy and his efforts in criminal justice reform. Ahead of the pivotal runoffs in Georgia, Jones had noted needed changes in the Republican Party.
“The face of the Republican party is going to be African-American men,” Jones told Newsmax TV on Tuesday. “African-American men, 2 million more voted for the president. The president has cracked the wall on getting African-American men votes.”
“But I did not see a significant effort for the African-American community in terms of voter get out for the Republican candidates,” he added. “They have not learned that yet. Loeffler nor Perdue put together a real stiff team to go after the African American vote.”
“You and I and others know there has been a split with the leadership of the Republicans, including with the president,” Jones said.
Jones spoke in support of Trump and the many allegations of election fraud at an Atlanta press event in November along with Donald Trump Jr. and Rep. Doug Collins.
“Let me tell you, we’re not going to stand for that. We’re not going to back down. We’re going to fight,” Jones told a cheering crowd. “We don’t cut and run. We’re going to fight. This is a battle cry.”

“I just want to say to the press so you can get the word out right now…we ain’t bullsh—ing,” he said, taking a direct shot at Stacey Abrams, the former minority leader of the state’s House of Representatives and failed 2018 Democratic gubernatorial nominee.
