U.S. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) is leaving Congress at the end of December to reportedly take over as the CEO of former President Trump’s new media organization, Trump Media & Technology Group, and the left is having kittens over it.

Nunes has reportedly opted to not seek reelection in 2022 to take a job offered to him by Trump, according to KMJ Radio. He made the announcement official in a statement. He has served in the House since 2003 and is currently the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee. The conservative Republican has made no bones about his staunch loyalty to Trump.

He unflinchingly voted against certifying Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory following claims of election fraud. Nunes was also among the most vocal defenders of the former president during the investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Fox News White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich tweeted that Nunes will become CEO of the media organization. He will assume his new role in January, the Trump Media & Technology Group said in a statement.

Heinrich asserted that Nunes “got a job offer that he can’t refuse.”

Trump’s media company is under investigation from the Securities and Exchange Commission ostensibly as a result of its merger with a special purpose acquisition company called Digital World Acquisition Corp.

“The time has come to reopen the Internet and allow for the free flow of ideas and expression without censorship,” the statement quoted Nunes. “The United States of America made the dream of the Internet a reality and it will be an American company that restores the dream.”

If Nunes had stayed in Congress, he would have been facing an intense battle to retain his seat in California as the deep blue state is redrawing its congressional districts after losing a seat following the 2020 U.S. Census, according to the Fresno Bee. It is believed it is unlikely that he would have prevailed.

Phil Arballo, a Democratic businessman who unsuccessfully challenged Nunes in 2020 and is running for the seat in 2022, responded to the news of Nunes’ retirement with a blunt statement, “Good riddance,” according to The Washington Post.
