Walking the Path of Awakening - A Comprehensive Guide to the Various Stages of Consciousness

What is awakening? In modern culture, there is this phenomenon of an individual's sudden realization of the world around them. We suddenly see everything we thought we knew with new eyes and new curiosity, yet in this experience we are often confused as to the cause and the possible results that may follow our heightened level of consciousness.

There are most likely as many levels of waking state as there are individuals who have experienced them. Though the combinations of sensations and realizations is fairly similar from person to person, the individual experiences can be highly specific. Whatever the definition, it seems that so many people are discovering and discussing this process awakening. But how does one reach this conscious level of waking state, and how can this process affect us for the better?

The Frequency of Consciousness

The theories of mainstream science tell us that there are five different levels of consciousness, or more specifically, five different types of brainwave frequencies which are associated with those levels of consciousness. These are Gamma, Beta, Alpha, Theta, and Delta. Here is the website Mental Health Daily with the details.

Gamma Waves

These are involved in higher processing tasks as well as cognitive functioning. Gamma waves are important for learning, memory and information processing. It is thought that the 40 Hz gamma wave is important for the binding of our senses in regards to perception and are involved in learning new material. It has been found that individuals who are mentally challenged and have learning disabilities tend to have lower gamma activity than average.
  • Frequency range: 40 Hz to 100 Hz (Highest)
  • Too much: Anxiety, high arousal, stress
  • Too little: ADHD, depression, learning disabilities
  • Optimal: Binding senses, cognition, information processing, learning, perception, REM sleep
  • Increase gamma waves: Meditation

Beta Waves

These are known as high frequency low amplitude brain waves that are commonly observed while we are awake. They are involved in conscious thought, logical thinking, and tend to have a stimulating affect. Having the right amount of beta waves allows us to focus and complete school or work-based tasks easily. Having too much beta may lead to us experiencing excessive stress and/or anxiety. The higher beta frequencies are associated with high levels of arousal. When you drink caffeine or have another stimulant, your beta activity will naturally increase. Think of these as being very fast brain waves that most people exhibit throughout the day in order to complete conscious tasks such as: critical thinking, writing, reading, and socialization.
  • Frequency range: 12 Hz to 40 Hz (High)
  • Too much: Adrenaline, anxiety, high arousal, inability to relax, stress
  • Too little: ADHD, daydreaming, depression, poor cognition
  • Optimal: Conscious focus, memory, problem solving
  • Increase beta waves: Coffee, energy drinks, various stimulants

Alpha Waves

This frequency range bridges the gap between our conscious thinking and subconscious mind. In other words, alpha is the frequency range between beta and theta. It helps us calm down when necessary and promotes feelings of deep relaxation. If we become stressed, a phenomenon called “alpha blocking” may occur which involves excessive beta activity and very little alpha. Essentially the beta waves “block” out the production of alpha because we become too aroused.
  • Frequency range: 8 Hz to 12 Hz (Moderate)
  • Too much: Daydreaming, inability to focus, too relaxed
  • Too little: Anxiety, high stress, insomnia, OCD
  • Optimal: Relaxation
  • Increase alpha waves: Alcohol, marijuana, relaxants, some antidepressants

Theta Waves

This particular frequency range is involved in daydreaming and sleep. Theta waves are connected to us experiencing and feeling deep and raw emotions. Too much theta activity may make people prone to bouts of depression and may make them “highly suggestible” based on the fact that they are in a deeply relaxed, semi-hypnotic state. Theta has its benefits of helping improve our intuition, creativity, and makes us feel more natural. It is also involved in restorative sleep. As long as theta isn’t produced in excess during our waking hours, it is a very helpful brain wave range.
  • Frequency range: 4 Hz to 8 Hz (Slow)
  • Too much: ADHD, depression, hyperactivity, impulsivity, inattentiveness
  • Too little: Anxiety, poor emotional awareness, stress
  • Optimal: Creativity, emotional connection, intuition, relaxation
  • Increase theta waves: Depressants

Delta Waves

These are the slowest recorded brain waves in human beings. They are found most often in infants as well as young children. As we age, we tend to produce less delta even during deep sleep. They are associated with the deepest levels of relaxation and restorative, healing sleep. They have also been found to be involved in unconscious bodily functions such as regulating heart beat and digestion. Adequate production of delta waves helps us feel completely rejuvenated after we wake up from a good night’s sleep. If there is abnormal delta activity, an individual may experience learning disabilities or have difficulties maintaining conscious awareness (such as in cases of brain injuries).
  • Frequency range: 0 Hz to 4 Hz (Slowest)
  • Too much: Brain injuries, learning problems, inability to think, severe ADHD
  • Too little: Inability to rejuvenate body, inability to revitalize the brain, poor sleep
  • Optimal: Immune system, natural healing, restorative / deep sleep
  • Increase delta waves: Depressants, sleep

These are the various levels of brain activity an individual exhibit during different activities in life. We may note that none of these frequency ranges typically occur within the brain on their own. It is normal that at any given moment, there are a number of different frequencies resonating within the brain, and that it is largely the dominant frequency which determines a person's level of consciousness.

When these levels change from lower frequency to higher frequencies, an individual can experience greater levels of awareness and are typically able to see their world in new ways. For instance, when we get out of bed in the morning, our minds are not at full capacity (though most of us already know this). It is only when we are able to wash and put foot into our bodies that we begin to fully awaken, according to what we are used to. But according to the description above, there are even greater levels of waking state beyond our post-coffee buzz and busy work-mode state.

Higher Levels

We may look at an average day and believe that what we see is normal, we may think of our experience as the best it can be according to our present state of development as people, but what if there were more? What if there were so much more to the possibility of our experience that would alter our life beyond anything we previously thought possible?

Eclipse of Disclosure – The Experience – Recounting Memories from Mt. Shasta

Scientifically speaking, this is quite possible. According to the above excerpt from Mental Health Daily, there are levels of heightened consciousness which the average person never actually meets during a normal day's experience. But let's move beyond science for  moment and delve into the possibilities of alternative research. As we will find, these explanations hold quite a bit more detail on the subject of the possibilities of human consciousness.

This excerpt comes from the website, Learning Mind.

1. The physical level of consciousness

On the first level of consciousness, you identify with the physical and material realm completely. You are an embodiment your external environment, with all its positive and negative aspects. You’ve internalized the values of society at large, and you define yourself in terms of your material successes and status. If you’re unsuccessful and poor, you accept things as they are and believe that efforts for success will be fruitless.

2. The rumblings from beneath

As you transcend to the second level of consciousness, you feel disillusionment with living entirely in the material realm. You start to identify less with external and material reality and begin to look inwards. You spend more time alone and start to feel unmoved by the lifestyle that can be got with money and consumerism. You become attracted to learning about yourself. You begin to distinguish between sex and love, and between superficial power and real power.

3. Emerging

On the third level, you become more sensitive. You feel things more deeply. You start allowing yourself to cry and experience painful states. You begin to ask philosophical questions and develop artistic sensibilities. You come to understand your relation to life, your physical being, your sexual energy, your creativity. You start to empathize with people, sensing what they feel. It starts to become clear what it is to be a human being and a true friend and neighbor, and you start to act on your own values.

4. From passive to active

As you move onto the fourth level of consciousness, you’ve emerged as an individual and begin to take an active role in life. You make your own decisions about what your life should be. You choose friends and situations according to your own values, of which you are now sure. You begin to wield influence over your own thoughts and emotions, manipulating themto fit your values and what you want for yourself. You practice mindfulness and begin to achieve self-mastery, knowing that every thought and deed defines you.

5. Inner balance

By the time you’ve reached the 5th level, you’ve changed your lifestyle in accordance with what’s best for you. You’ve given up destructive habits. You treat your body and mind with respect and maintain harmony and balance through your daily regimen. You’ve stopped living for the admiration and acceptance of others, and you’ve started to live for yourself. You begin to offer service to others based on your own desire to give. You devote time to meditation, creating, and celebrating existence. You make compromises with others and your ego concerns diminish. You begin to manifest your spiritual being in the physical world and in your relationships.

6. Bridging the gap

At the 6th stage of consciousness, the split between the external world and the spiritual realm has become clear to you. You live almost a double life. You are in the world but you no longer feel part of it. You become adept at passing between spiritual and physical realities and you begin to transfer knowledge from the one to the other. You become able to adapt to different situations, adopting personas to fit requirements of circumstances, but holding fast to a higher self. You meditate often and become someone who can resolve conflicts and offer others guidance.

7. Manifesting spirit

When you’ve reached the 7th level of consciousness, you’ve begun to live from spirit. You feel a deep emotional connection with all living creatures. You understand what lies in the hearts of people, you feel their pain and know how to heal them. You express your spirit physically, uninhibited by negative feelings or judgments of yourself or others. You show affection to people with overwhelming warmth and connect with others emotionally.

8. Beginnings of fusion

At the 8th level of consciousness, the barriers between your ego and the collective are beginning to crumble. There’s no longer merely a recognition of your sameness with all those around you, you begin to feel the symbiotic connection that you have with all of creation. You become aware of energies and realize that all feeling, thought, and action is based on vibrations or frequencies of energy. You learn how to master the energy that you’re channelling and begin to see that you can influence the actions of others with your energy.

9. Presence

When you pass onto the 9th level of consciousness, you wield such power over your thoughts and feelings that their strength and purity begin to transform the people you meet. When you enter a room, people feel pure love for you. Your presence becomes so tangible and powerful that it influences others. Your mind, heart, spirit, body, and soul are one. You no longer identify yourself as an individual being with any ego concerns. You have become fused with the universe. At this point, you’re able to lead others en masse.

10. Dissolution of self and ascendance

At the 10th and final level of consciousness, your sense of self has almost entirely disappeared. You have no ego boundaries left standing, and you live in your own spiritual reality. Your connection to the rest of creation becomes coordinated. You move and everyone moves with you. You have become fused with the collective. You’re able to communicate with all beings in one pure language. Your being absorbs the universe around it and is absorbed by it. You are able to channel divine power.

This is a helpful explanation in my view, and gives a fairly thorough list of possibilities of conscious state. One of the many reason I can appreciate alternative research is that these sources take personal experiences into account and give the scientific side of the equation new areas to research.

The above passage describes the experience many of us go through when we first realize that the world is much more than we once thought. Though this is only one interpretation of the possibilities of awakening, many of us can relate to these stages and may possibly even remember when we experienced them.

Expanding Awareness

When we speak of awakening, we are talking about a process of coming into a higher state of awareness of the world around us. We may know that there is more than one state of waking consciousness possible for human beings. In fact there are many levels of consciousness, and the number of levels is arguably infinite.

Tips on Discernment – Discerning the Self – Discussing the Vital Lesson of Self-Evaluation

There are likely countless levels of waking state a soul can attain.  One of the more common levels at present—termed "The rumblings from beneath" in the above excerpt—seems to be the one in which we realize just how wrong we have been about the world.  It's when we realize the true possibilities of reality beyond our own life experience. This is also when we realize just how extensively we have been lied to.

When we begin to learn and observe our world for ourselves, we find that the explanations we were given as children about life were not as true as we thought. We may realize how information has been communicated, not thoroughly or responsibly, but dogmatically, and that those who gave us this information only seemed intent upon reinforcing some prepackaged thought pattern.

We think of politics, economics, religion, science and all of the subjects a person needs to be educated in before acquiring a diploma or degree, and we begin to wonder just how accurate all of those lessons were. We may wonder to what end these lessons have affected our lives for better or for worse.

Over time we may realize that the life we have lived up to this point was only a product of dogmatic standards propagated by the establishment.

Once we step outside of this school of unproven dogma, we may realize just how little we truly know about life, our world, and the universe as a whole. In this state there can be a sense of anxiety and even fear. We may realize that our new awareness has unhinged our world view and disturbed our sense of reality.

This heightened level of waking state has been clearly noticeable to most everyone in the truth community. Yet very few of us seem to understand it completely. This ignorance of the process may be a key ingredient of the experience as a whole.

According to the Law of One, we as free souls have the what is called the Law of Free Will as a basis for our conscious experience. This law stipulates that we are free to take any action and have any experience we choose without knowing the full effects of our actions until after we have taken them.

Discerning the Mystery – A New Take

A soul can either choose to serve themselves or they may choose to serve others as a whole. This experience equates to the overall universal expression of all consciousness within the finite and the infinite. But what do I mean by this?

In Law of One terms, there are countless levels of consciousness to experience. According to the text as well as numerous instances of scientific evidence, the universe actually consists of a fractal matrix of sacred geometry. This geometry exists at both the cosmic level and the quantum level. All levels could be said to represent the possibility of exploration, and if this is true, it may mean that consciousness exists at the cosmic, the quantum level, and everywhere in between.

Consciousness is likely the foundation of life itself and if life is evolving from one state to another, this would mean that consciousness is doing the same—evolving from lower to higher more complex states. This evolution of consciousness is our process of awakening, and as we may have realized, that consciousness has been hindered by the powers that be.

When our natural awakening process is hindered or denied, it builds up energy over the time it is hindered. Just like any natural process, when it is hindered, it builds up a sort of “pressure” until it can no longer be contained. When that pressure is released, the reaction is explosive and many changes and advancements which were once stifled may begin to occur in rapid succession.

Social and societal changes may begin to happen so quickly that few of us may be able to keep up with the pace of these changes.

This point of explosive progress is where we now find our world society. We have been hindered by nefarious interests for centuries, and the time is very near when this explosion of growth, progress, and consciousness expansion returns to its natural pace and continuity.

Roger Richards and Full Disclosure Now – Interview at Eclipse of Disclosure 2017 - Video, Links, and Commentary

There was one point made in the above article by Learning Mind which distinguished the difference between the passive state of being and the active state. This step in the progress of conspicuousness seems to be a very key point of transition in our present world. Within many awakened communities, people are learning what it truly means to take responsibility for their own actions and for the state of the world as a whole.

We are learning how to take an active role in insuring that the progress of world society heads toward a state of overall freedom, peace and harmony. This is the key milestone of progress, in my opinion, and reveals that world society is moving toward a state of active creation and personal contribution. If this continues, we may likely find that the problems we once believed were impossible to solve will appear to solve themselves, granted we are each willing to continue responsibly on our own respective paths of awakening.
